Is this possible? I am not a networking professional; explain if/how
this is possible in layman?s terms.

A Virtual private network (VPN) is tailored to meet remote users?
(travelers?) needs. The firewall somehow allows remote users to ONLY
access their particular desktop machine and then by having ?remote
control' access to their machine, access whatever network resources
they would normally have access privileges to on their desktop at
work. In other words, the remote user has the exact same privelages
they would at work, no more, no less.
