I am looking for a detailed technical explanation of the operation of
a fluxgate compass. The mathematics, the physics, and the electronics
involved.Are there any articles available on the web?

A low-tech compass uses a magnetized pointer that aligns itself with
the earth's magnetic field. A fluxgate compass replaces the magnetized
pointer with two coils at right angles to one another. That way you
get an electronic readout and can use the signal to automate the
steering. That's about all I've been able to find.

I found a bunch more stuff. The trick is to spell it flux gate and flux-gate.
