Still looking for a great tearjerking song classic country song from
the early to mid-eighties that me and my sister still remember and
can't pinpoint. Lyrics I remember are "...forget me not, regret me not
my darling, I'll be true as long as these flowers stay true blue...and
if our love should ever die.." The lyrics implying that and the lover
from the song kept replacing faded flowers in order not to have to
face that his loved one would never return to him. Artist and title
please. Album, chart placement, and songwriter would be great. This is
not the song by Wariner. Thanks!

Nectar, lyrics would be great. I have ordered the record from Sweden.
I seem to remember a male vocalist though...so maybe this was a cover.
Who did it originally, I wonder? Who wrote it? Many thanks. I am still
hunting, but this sounds like the right song!

Yup, that's it! Thanks so much. This means a lot to me and my sister.
I don't why this song didn't have more sucess, it is such a
quitessential country song.

Oops, quintessential. Does anyone know who did the original? If none
of the experts know, any country music fans? I will be making a small
donation to an animal charity in honor of Nectar. Thanks again!

All I could find was a song called "Forget Me Not" by Lucie Silvas and Celine Dion.

The singer your looking for is Kikki Danielsson and the song is indeed
called Forget Me Not. She released it on her "Just Like a Woman "
album in 1981. I was surprised to find out that she is Swedish.
Here is some info on her.

Hi squirrel,
Not had any luck finding another version, maybe you could ask the
people you're getting the record from.

Here are the lyrics. There is one bit I couldn't understand, and the
word you thought was "regret" seems to be "remake", from what I can
make out.

In a town in Tennessee, an old man reaches
For a torn and tattered book upon a shelf
He takes it down and opens to
Some pressed forget-me-nots so blue
And he reads her tear-stained letters to himself

Forget me not, remake [?] me not, my darling
I?ll be yours, long as these blossoms stay true blue
And if our love this meant too bloom, I?ll be back to you real soon
If the flowers fade, you know our love is through

Fifty summers have gone by since he has seen her
The old man lives all alone and friends are few
But the few who know his name, his [??]
Those forget-me-nots inside the book stay blue

Forget me not, remake [?] me not, my darling
I?ll be yours, long as these blossoms stay true blue
And if our love this meant too bloom, I?ll be back to you real soon
If the flowers fade, you know our love is through

Though I see him pick fresh flowers every morning
Place then in that book, still wet with morning dew
But if that old man?s love won?t die, does it realty matter why
Those forget-me-nots inside the book stay blue

They're very sad. This is a nice version, but good luck in finding the original.

Hi h2olily,
I'm glad I could help, and because of your kind gesture I've been on
the hunt again.
I found a version with a male singer - Bjøro Håland (this time
Norwegian, so we have a Scandinavian theme going here). It appears on
his 1980 album "To my friends" Published by Grappa:
http://www.grappa.no/ Catalog no.: GRCD4012. You can listen to (and
buy) the song at this address:
http://www.musicfromnorway.com/default.aspx?norwegian=artist&music=4519

And this one (if you happen to have some Norwegian krone on you):
http://www.mic.musiconline.no/shop/displayAlbum.asp?id=28963

He has a web page, but it's not much use, apart from having contact details:
http://www.bjoro.com/

The lyrics are easier to understand and you were right with "regret me
not". I've also cleared up a few of the others:

In a town in Tennessee, an old man reaches
For a torn and tattered book upon a shelf
He takes it down and opens to
Some pressed forget-me-nots so blue
And he reads her tear-stained letters to himself

Forget me not, regret me not, my darling
I?ll be yours, as long as these blossoms stay true blue
And if our love this meant too bloom, I?ll be back to you real soon
If the flowers fade, you know our love is through

Fifty summers have gone by since he has seen her
The old man lives all alone and friends are few
But the few who know him say, his love has made nature loose her way
Those forget-me-nots inside the book stay blue

Forget me not, regret me not, my darling
I?ll be yours, as long as these blossoms stay true blue
And if our love this meant too bloom, I?ll be back to you real soon
If the flowers fade, you know our love is through

No one sees him pick fresh flowers every morning
Place them in that book, still wet with morning dew
But if an old man?s love won?t die, then does it realty matter why
Those forget-me-nots inside the book stay blue

Forget me not, regret me not, my darling
I?ll be yours, as long as these blossoms stay true blue
And if our love this meant too bloom, I?ll be back to you real soon
If the flowers fade, you know our love is through

Still not certain this is the one your looking for but have a listen
and let me know.

Hi h2olily,
I had a look at your other questions and have found a place where you
can download "I'm a train". The question is closed so I can't put it
as a comment there.
