bighair-ga,
In an age band a bit broader than you asked about -- men aged 35-54 --
there are 2,732,762 single and separated men in New York State.
I used this age band because the Census Bureau data is presented by
age groups, and breaks out their data by 35-44 year olds, and 45-54
year olds. Combining the two categories gives the totals for the
35-54 year old men in NYS.
The details are as follows:
New York State Male Population in 2005
Population...Married..Never Married..Divorced....Separated...Widowed...TOTAL
35-44 years:
1,407,723....64.7%......23.6%.........8.2%........3.1%.......0.4%
............910,797...332,223.......115,433.....43,639......5,631....1,407,723
45-54 years:
1,326,365....68.3%......15.0%........12.2%........3.6%.......0.8%
............905,907...198,955.......161,817.....47,749.....10,611....1,325,039
Grand Total..........................................................2,732,762
Six months ago, I wouldn't have been able to answer this question.
But I'm *finally* getting the hang of the bizarrely complex Census
Bureau site, and learning to pull out data even when it's not
presented in their main 'Factfinder' pages.
The source of the data for New York State came from the Census downloads page:
http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/DownloadDatasetServlet?_lang=en
where I accessed the data for the 2005 American Community Survey.
Let me know if there's anything else you need on this.
