I am looking for websites for manufacturers/distributors/VARs that
will allow me to purchase in bulk low cost, unbranded OEM PCs that can
be used as hardware "appliances".

These "appliances" generally come in small form factor formats and I
have found an example picture of what I mean here:
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/en/products/antiSpam/canItSmb

I am after bare bones PCs that I intend to put a software application
that I have written onto these systems and sell them. I'd like to
maintain the highest possible margin by keeping down the cost of the
hardware component.

I imagine there are plenty of Far-East manufacturers and distributors
but I am at a loss of what to search for.

The minimum specifications are:
* AMD 2400+
* 20GB hard disk
* Basic video card
* 100BaseT network card
* 512Mb RAM
* 1 spare PCI/PCI-X slot

Hello grimreaper1980,

Are you interested in building your own?

If so, www.newegg.com might be a good idea for you to build your own
SFF PCs. Some of the Asian and Middle Eastern countries hawking these
use replica goods that are not as usable and have no warranty. I
believe they are known as GREY GOODS or GREY MARKET goods.

Let me know what you think of this.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

I am not looking to build the goods myself, I want to do as little as
possible to the systems apart from load my software onto them because
I am very busy.

I just want to order the systems in bulk from someone who can at least
offer some assurance of quality or has a policy to return boxes that
are DOA. When I say I want to keep that margins down, I mean that I
want to keep them low but I won't accept any old cheap tat just to get
my product out the door :)

Also I forgot to mention that I am based in the UK so ideally I would
like to deal with a European contact who operates on behalf of a
manufacturer. I know I have found a number of these places in the
past but I really don't have the time to research right now due to
other commitments.

A list of suppliers who can provide 1U form factor rackmount PCs, or
PCs that look similar to the URL I posted would be perfect.

Thanks!

Also I found more "appliances" that should give you an idea of what I am after:
http://www.sonicwall.com/products/ssl-vpn/productline.html

I have definitely seen sites advertising products like those in bulk
quantities before! These have multiple network points in them which
may be useful for a project I am considering in the future.

These are just stock PCs in a nice small case that you can stick in
your server rack and forget about - I'm not after tower case PCs by
the way.

I hope this has made things clearer :)

What do I need to do to get the details of the supplier?

Hello grimreaper1980,

I was just working out some details.

Would SFF DELL PCs suffice for your needs? I know of a supplier in the
UK who can do it if so. (www.pronetrix.com)

Let me know what you think of this option.
