What is the size of the market for non-contacting automotive gas pedal
sensors and throttle position sensor, today, five years in the future
and 10 years in the future.

Hello;

Just for clarification purposes, are you needing information for the
emerging adaptive cruise control and automotive drive-by-wire
technologies or solely information on the types of sensors used in
these systems?

Thanks
Rinn

For emerging Electronic Throttle control. Many vehicles already have
gas pedal by wire, almost 50% in Europe. Most of those are using
potentiometers. How many owrld wide use POTS today, by region (North
America, ASIA, Europe) and how many use a non-potentiometric sensor.
How many will convert from by-wire to no-wire and how many will
convert from pots to non-contacting by a certain point in time.

This is for drive by wire or Electronic throttle control, many times
associated with Vehicle stability systems or brake by wire systems.

Drive-by-wire where the get rid of the gas and brake pedal and replace
with a joystick is not what I am looking for.

What I really want to know is how many gas pedals in five years will
have either a Hall effect sensor, Magnetoresisitve sensor or inductive
sensor on them.

Soggy,

I searched for the your request, and I found at least 10 citation with
revenue numbers and projections by Frost and Sullivan related to
sensors in the automotive industry. Since I am not familiar with the
industry, I wonder if you would look at the following list, and tell
me if any of these citations would satisfy your request.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Displacement Sensor Markets… this market generated $xx million in 2000
and is projected to reach $xx million by 2006.

Smart Sensor Markets, generated revenues totaling $ xx million in
2001. Total revenues from temperature (infrared), flowmeter,
position, and load cell (force) sensors could reach $ xx million in
2007.

Infrared Sensors Markets, reveals that this industry generated
revenues of $xx million in 2000 and projects revenues to increase
steadily to $x million by 2007.

Automotive Chemical Sensor Market, reveals this total market decreased
from $xx million in 1999 to $xx million in 2000.

Gas Sensor Markets, reveals this market generated $xx million in 2000
and is projected to reach $xx million by 2007.

Pressure Sensor Markets generated revenues of $xx billion in 1999 xx
to top the $xx billion mark by 2006, with fiber-optic sensors
representing nearly $xx million.

World AVV Markets, generated revenues of $xx million in 2000 …to climb
to $xx billion in 2007. This projection includes the acceleration,
vibration and velocity sensors for the piezoelectric, piezoresistive
and capacitive technologies.

World Ultrasonic, Capacitive and Magnetic Sensors in Semiconductor
Markets- this market generated $xx million in 2000 and is projected
to reach $xx million 2007.

World Magnetic Sensor Markets reveals this industry generated revenues
of over $xx million in 1999... to reach near the $xx billion mark by
2006.

Infrared (IR) sensors total revenue for 2000 is estimated to have
generated close to $xx million with more than xx sensor units the
report projects revenues will increase to $xx million by 2007.

Soggy-ga;

Thanks for the clarification, it helped greatly. The hard numbers you
are looking for are accessible but at a price. In general the United
States sensor industry has revenues of 9.6 billion annually. The
North American market of magnetic sensors predict a growth from 93.2
million in 1999 to revenues totalling around 398.2 million by 2003.
The non-contacting sensors such as the Hall effect and
magnetostrictive sensors are taking the place of the contacting
sensors and are becoming increasingly popular amoung OEM's, original
equipment manufactures.

Security, Electronics and Communication, double click, report #1539 on
sensors was released in April 2002. There is a fee for this report.

Good luck!
