Question ID: 77757
I'm trying to find websites that would have instructionns on how to
program already composed ringtones into a motorola v66 mobile phone.
Ideally, the site(s) would have lists of popular music (pop, rock,
hip-hop, r&b) with their corresponding compositions for the phone.

Greetings cipher1331,

Programming ringtones into the Motorola v66 series phone is done
through the "Ringtone Composer" available through the standard menus
on the phone itself. Here's the instructions for getting to the
composer:

"To locate the composer on the Motorola v66 phone, click the menu (top
central) button and scroll down and select 'Settings'. A new menu
will appear, so scroll down and select 'Ring/Vibrate', then again
scroll and select 'My Tones'.

You will now see a list of tones you have entered in the past (the
list will be blank if you have not used the composer before). To
store your new ringtone, scroll down to the bottom of the list and you
will see '[New Tone]'. Select this. On the next screen you will see
'[Notes]', select this.

Once you have located the composer, you need to enter the key press
sequence that actually is the tone you want to program."

If you happen to have the newer Motorola V66(i) series, the
instructions are a bit different:

"To enter the code into your V66i phone, press the menu button and
using the arrow keys scroll down and select 'Ring Styles'.

A new menu will appear, scroll down and select 'My Tones', then scroll
down and select '[New Tone]'.

Finally, select 'Change' to enter the note editor.

Once you have located the composer, you need to enter the key press
sequence that actually is the tone you want to program."

There are several websites that offer free ringtones online, however,
most of them offer the standard Nokia based format or only support
sending the tones in SMS format. The very best solution (although not
free) I found was an application called the "Coding Workshop Ringtone
Converter". This application will allow you to download and/or convert
ringtones to both the Motorola v66/v66i or virtually any other type of
mobile phone.

Here's a blurb from their website regarding the software:
"You can now use the converter to convert RTTTL (Ring Tone Text
Transfer Language), MIDI, Nokia key press sequences, Motorola 'on
screen' format and Nokia Composer ring tones so they work on your
phone.

Through both the included ringtones, the additional free ringtone
packs, and the converter functions, practically any tune you can
think of is available free on the internet in one of the formats."

The software is available as a free download from their website, but
in order to unlock the complete version, a one-time registration fee
of $12.95 is required. If you plan to use the ringtone
converter/composer quite often, this might be the best solution.

Otherwise, you can go to one of the many ringtone websites out there
and download the ringtones in Nokia RTTTL format, then use a free
online converter to give you the key sequence needed for the composer.
Only problem is that the converter may not give you 100% results with
phones that are fairly new to the market. I've included links to those
sites and services at the bottom of this answer.

I hope that helps to answer your question. I've included all of the
links mentioned in this answer below. Please do not hesitate to ask
for clarification if you need further assitance on this question -
I'll be happy to help further.

Just a quick clarification, the website for the Coding Workshop
Ringtone Converter software has detailed instructions for entering
ringtones into both the Motorola v66 and v66i phones. Also, of all the
free ringtone sites I found on the 'net, none of them offered the
tones exclusively in Motorola format - they all seem to prefer the
more common Nokia language. It looks like running them through some
sort of conversion is one of the only options right now, at least for
sites that offer large numbers of tones and for free.

Here's another popular FREE Ringtone website:
