Hi Answerfinder

Thanks to you I have now read the SOE file on Don which has now been
opened following a FOI request. It includes TWO piccies and quite a
bit of personal info.

As we already know, he was divorced from Esther in 1943 but can you
now dig up some dirt?

Was there another man?

If there was and it was you then I promise I will only use the info for blackmail.

My Question 771994 refers.

All the Best

Bryan

Bryan,
Have you MI5 watching my house? You seem to know when I am away for a few days.
Very suspicious.
I'm on the case but because of catching up tasks I may not be able to
post until tomorrow. I suspect that I gathered everything on the last
time. I'll let you know.

Sorry, Answerfinder, but the info you requested is Classified and, as
you know, the files are closed for at least 30 years.

However, please dig whatever dirt you can and, more generally, please
tell me what info (if any) is generally available on divorces, apart
from newspaper reports.

Many thanks

Bryan

Bryan,

As I thought, I covered most references to Esther in my earlier
research apart from this: Esther married a James J. A. Murray, son of
Francis Edward Murray, on 5 February 1946. She died 1 November 1996
(Age 91).

As for divorce records, you are out of luck. They are dealt with on
this information leaflet from the National Archives. You can get a
certificate of the divorce, but as for the case papers,

?1938-date: most have been destroyed. A very small annual sample has
been kept, subject to 30-year closure: the sample is searchable on the
Catalogue [...] using the surname as the search term and restrict the
search to J 77. A further 2% random sample is in J 132, for cases
where the Official Solicitor acted for one of the parties: these are
subject to a 75 year or longer closure.?

I have searched this annual sample and the Makgill papers do not appear.

Looks like a visit to Colindale and the British Museum Newspaper
Library may be the only answer.

I place this as a comment as it's not worthy of an answer. In other
words, have this one me providing you take the surveillance team off
my house.

Very many thanks, Answerfinder ...

As it happens, I shall be going to Colindales on Thursday but for
something different where you have already provided very valuable
help.

I wish I could be more specific but, as this is a public forum, I
don't want to become a target for any Flames.

I will let you know how I get on.

In view of your generosity, all surveillance is now withdrawn -
without any admission that there was any in the first place.

Very Best Wishes

Bryan
