When I and my boyfriend got married we had obtained a marriage licence
but never got it registered. Shortly after the ceremony (in church) we
separated but because the marriage licence was never registered I dont
know whether we were ever legally married. How do I resolve this? I
have a citizenship interview coming up and I know there are questions
such as "Are you currently married? Have you ever been married
before?"....How do I respond to that?

As Bryan points out, what was the state wherein the ceremony occurred?

For instance, some states have "common law" marriage that might make your
wedding ceremony a binding marriage.

More importantly, some states have a legal provision through which an
unregistered marriage can be certified long after the fact in cases
where the certificate was never registered as it should have been. In
this case a person who "thinks" they are not legally married may
actually "become" married if the spouse decides to certify the
marriage. With that in mind, in order to provide an answer it is
imperitive that we know what state the marriage license was obtained
in AND in what state the ceremony took place.

In your previous question - 775725 - Denco asked ...

'What was the state wherein the ceremony occurred?'

We cannot make progress without this information.
