We are seeking a small oak chest to hold 120 place settings (6 pieces)
of dining flatware, along with 75 serving and accessory pieces. We are
looking for a purpose-made silver chest, or a place that specializes
in make them to order. I am setting a price of $25, which I'll pay for
either the make, model, price and source of a specific "120 settings +
75 accessories oak silver cabinet", or, alternatively, ten separate
sources that are clearly capable of custom-making such an item.

Dear Yorker,

Your silverware set is, as I’m sure you already know, much larger than
will fit into the average chest built for the purpose. The largest
ready-made cabinet I was able to find accommodated only a 16-setting
(7-piece) set plus accessories.

However, your choices for custom making a cabinet are much greater, as
there are a fairly large number of fine cabinetmakers and woodworkers
who will design and craft any hardwood item to your exact
specifications, and so I’ve answered Part 2 of your question (and
given you a few extra sites for good measure).

The following links are to sites that I checked to be sure you could
a) order in your choice of wood, b) were fine craftsman, not merely
woodworkers, and c) welcomed and/or specialized in custom orders.

1.	Eureka Manufacturing Co. (a division of Reed and Barton, who are
known for their hardwood flatware chests) will custom make a flatware
chest to your specifications: http://www.woodchest.com/
2.	Then, here is a New York custom cabinetmaking company:
http://www.custom-furniture.net/
3.	This company will build any hardwood item to your specifications:
http://www.barnwoodproducts.com/custom_order.htm
4.	Keepsake Jewelry Boxes obviously specializes in jewelry boxes, but
they also handcraft other items, and will craft any box to your
specifications: http://www.keepsakebox.com/
5.	Townsend is a company of fine cabinetmakers specializing in custom
furniture, who will custom craft to your order:
http://www.townsendcabinetmakers.com/
6.	Here is another company specializing in handcrafting from wood, who
will accept custom orders: http://www.townsendcabinetmakers.com/
7.	This company says they don’t want to ship out of New England, but
they do make beautifully custom crafted wood products, and could maybe
be convinced if you’re not located in that area:
http://rowecraft.com/shopdisplaycategories.asp
8.	A craftsman specializing in fine wood chests and boxes who will
craft to order: http://www.harlequinac.com/pages/nsfset.html
9.	This custom woodworking company says they’ll make it for you:
http://reda.hypermart.net/
10.	Another jewelry chest/box company, who will also craft a chest to
your specifications: http://www.melannde.com/
11.	Here is a Canadian company, specializing in exquisite jewelry
boxes, but who will craft other items to your order:
http://www.phoenix-woodcraft.com/jboxmain.html
12.	This design company says they provide “unlimited design options:”
http://loftusdesigns.com/custom.htm
13.	A design studio specializing in custom fine furnishings to order:
http://www.heitzmanstudios.com/
14.	Another studio that falls more into the category of fine art
rather than mere furnishings, you have control of the design, and the
finished piece is expertly crafted:
http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/Outlet/4791/designs/Page_2x.html

In addition, here are links to two specialized search sites with
further links to custom wood crafters: http://custommade.com/ and
http://directory.google.com/Top/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/Custom/

The search terms I used that generated the best results were:

special order hardwood storage chest or box
silverware or flatware chest
custom crafted wood chest
custom wood craft cabinetmaker
order cabinetmaker
special order hardwood

It sounds like you’ve embarked on an enjoyable product. I hope one of
these links will connect you with someone who can help you get exactly
what you have in mind.

Best wishes,
Byrd

Excellent, those are all solid leads and I hope that at least one of
them will be able to do exactly what we want. Thanks for the extra two
as well [grin].
