I have a question about the film "Inside Man". How did the character
Dalton Russell (the main bank robber) know that there were diamonds in
the safety deposit box in the vault? A related question: the
character Case (the Nazi criminal) betrayed a friend to the Nazis in
World War II. Was the name of the friend mentioned in the film? If
so, was that person somehow related to Dalton Russell or another of
the bank robbers?

Greetings, sallythomson!

I've been wanting to see this movie for a while, and your Question
gave me an excuse to go rent it, so thank you very much for that -- I
really enjoyed it.

I found this movie's plot to be very complex with lots of subtleties,
a real "thinking person's movie".

The name of Case's French Jewish friend is not mentioned in either the
movie or in the DVD extras, and we do not learn whether that friend is
related to anyone we see in the movie.

However, I do have a theory or two about how Dalton Russell knew of
the safety-deposit box's contents, and about the unspoken
relationships between some of the people in the movie. I believe that
my theories are strongly supported by things that were said and done
in the movie.

If you're interested, I would be willing to post a detailed
explanation of my theories and what I see are the interesting plot
points of the movie. If you'd be willing to accept that as an Answer,
please post a Clarification here, and I will glad to do so.

Regards,
aceresearcher
