I am trying to find newspaper mention of Del. John R. Leopold brief
stint as a fundraiser at Loyola College. He was employed between 1982
and left sometime in 85 or 86 after the college found out he was
raising funds for his own election and tapping College contributers.
He was a delegate at the time, and has held one elected office or
another since he was about 24 years of age. He first held a school
board position in Hawaii, but I am trying to find the story that ran
probably in the the Baltimore Sunpaper or the Maryland Gazette or the
Annapolis Capital. He is currently running for County Executive for
Anne Arundel County and many of the republicans he has claimed endorse
him have come out and flatly denied they ever supported him. So I
need this information as quickly as possible and am willing to pay.
Let me know what you need to make the search worthwhile, because I am
running into walls trying to get into archieved reports on this Loyola
College flap.

glitterbag-ga,

I found a number of mentions of Leopold's stint at Loyola in several
different capacities (including fundraising) and in several different
papers, but nothing that mentioned any sort of scandal.

The closest I came was a 1990 editorial that says, in effect, that
Leopold deceived contributors "in a most unethical manner", apparently
by raising money for a run at one office, but then switching offices
that he was running for.

You can see an excerpt from the editorial here:

Beyond that -- as I said -- there's nothing I can see about any funding scandal.

Would you like the full article and citation of the above article as
an answer to your question?

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Do you have the year of the publication?
Like pafalafa-ga, I found nothing on a fundraising scandal. Although I
did find a scandal that involved Leopold and a high school teacher
from May 25 1981 in the Annapolis Capital newspaper.

veanne-ga,

Interesting find. What source were you using to search the Annapolis Capital?
