Hello.

Your movie was "Long Journey Back" (1978), starring Stephanie Zimbalist.

From a message archived by Google Groups:

" "Long Journey Back" with Stephanie Zimbalist (based on true story of high
school girl left paralyzed when her school bus stalls on a set of railroad
tracks and is hit by an oncoming train) "

Here's the entry for the movie at the Internet Movie Database:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077866/

From Amazon.com:

"When a train smashes into Celia's school bus, she is one of the few
survivors - but her family is a near casuality. With brain damage and
an artificial leg, Celia must battle the long journey back, while her
family fights not to be torn apart by hurt and guilt."
