I have an annoying problem with my PC. Whenever I click on an email
hyperlink in a web page, instead of Outlook opening up and a new email
ready to complete appearing, the computer tries really hard to open as
many windows as it can of IE 6. I have tried the repair feature in
Outlook but it does not fix it. The only way I can get around it
(that is if I forget and click a hyperlink) is to CTRl-ALT-DEL and
immediately shut down IE. This usually stops things after a minute or
so. I don't know what is going on with it but it is really annoying.
If I don't immediately do the above then it usually freezes the whole
machine and I need to reboot.
I am running Windows XP SP 2 with Office 2003. Outlook works fine for
all my normal email.
I need a fix. |

To explain what happens a little further...the machine tries to spawn
hundreds of IE windows whenever I click an email hyperlink.
I have McAfee Security Centre and AdAware installed.

I have tried both of the fixes suggested in the web page link. I
think the problem is in the registry setting. I can't open the mailto
folder using regedit. This means I can't add the new string suggested
by the web page.
Any more ideas?

Apparently quite a few people have had this problem. Here's one:

The solution:

Let me know if this works.
