Like everyone else I was interested in the case and watched the movie-documentary with Kris Kristofferson as well. I thought I understood most of what was put up as the arguments for both (a)the unknown intruder and (b) the mother, as the only possible guilty parties. However one aspect of the evidence put forward that I did not quite understand was that which dealt with the pineapple found in the girl's stomach. Was it that the police were arguing that given there was no pineapple served at Xmas Eve party that whole family went to, then Johnbenet must have consumed pinapple at home before going to bed which conflicts directly with mother's story that Johnbenet was asleep when family arrived home and was put straight to bed; the deduction being that either (i)the mother lied about her going to bed directly as she must have kept her awake and eating pineaple after she arrived home or (ii)the Xmas Eve party host lied about not having pineaple available for guests at the party for reasons that remain unknown. I think I remember (in support of the pineapple at home theory) that police found pineaple in the murdered girl's home, yes? no? Maybe I am off the track in all instances above so could someone who knows just briefly tell me what was it with the pineapple that so interested the police. Also if you happen to know could you please advise the name of book written by one of the investigating police officers. In that particular book he argues that the mother did it, which is the book I am after. I think another book was written by the Kris Kristofferson character where he argues an intruder did it. Thanking you in anticipation of quick and concise report in next cupla hours. John From Melbourne |

Assumng you mean John Mark Karr, note that after he was arrested in Thailand and brought to Colorado, prosecutors dropped their case against him as Jon Benet Ramsey's killer after his DNA tests failed to link him to the crime. I heard that they found unknown male dna at the scene, so that means that the mother couldn't have done it. |

We were discussing that on Straight Dope some time ago We reckoned that John Mark Karr had AIDS and wanted to get back to the US for treatment. He would have confessed to shooting JFK to get out of a Thai jail. Looking at the 'ransom note' I reckoned that it was written by an adolescent male who knew the family quite well although they did not notice him. I suspected that his sister/mother worked in a bank so he knew the volume of currency. Also, from the garrotte, I reckoned that he was not particularly strong. The fingerprints on the pineapple bowl do not strike me as conclusive, I would be surprized if the wife's prints were /not/ on the bowl, who else unloaded the dishwasher ? Also a 6 year old kid is quite capable of raiding the fridge on her own. IIRC the police made a great deal about the mother's odd behaviour, which indicates to me that they were not particularly bright - people behave oddly when they are in odd circumstances. What I don't understand is that they found male DNA, yet from what I've read, they did not do mass testing. |
