Good morning. I'm really hoping you can help. I would like to know the EXACT formula used to calculate the S&P 500 Banks Index (^BIX) daily price. I know that there are 28 banks in that index and that it is a weighted percentage. However, I cannot figure out how to get to the daily price. Yesterday's close was $399.70. Can you help???? Please. |

Take yesterdays price and multiply by the weighted average change in stock price for the 28 banks for today and you will get todays value. the difficult part is accoutnign for splits, repurchases, dividends, and the addition and deletion of stocks. see: http://www2.standardandpoors.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=sp/Page/IndicesMethodologyPg&r=1&l=EN&b=4 |
