What percent of U.S. Households have rotary dial service only. i.e.
they have phone service, but not touch-tone. I need recent
(preferably last five years) data that can be cited. i.e. An
reference in a newspaper article is insuffient, I need to trace the
result back to a primary source. Any further demographic or
geographic breakdowns would be a plus.

I don't know if anyone (can) or does track this directly, so I would
expect an estimate, but hopefully a GOOD estimate!

Apparently exact figures are not available. Does this help?

"It's hard to say how many rotary users remain. A spokeswoman for
Pacific Bell says the company doesn't track the number of rotary phone
users, and doesn't sell that style of phone any longer. Roseville
Telephone Co., which serves 135,000 lines, says 1,000 rotary phones
are still leased in its territory.

Across the United States, 2 million of the nation's 120 million
households still lease phones. Probably some of them are rotary
holdovers, but no one knows how many, according to Lucent Technologies
Inc."

Hello Joelm18,

From the International Customer Management Institute

According to Anton Kritzinger, Compass Management Consulting ? about
14% of phones are rotaries, primarily in rural areas and probably used
mostly by the elderly.?

?About 14 percent of phones are rotaries, primarily in rural areas and
probably used mostly by the elderly. In the past, transitions from one
advancement to the next have always proved difficult for the poor and
the elderly. Many elderly people keep their rotary phones out of
stubbornness, comfort or cost. To those that don't have even this
small luxury, everyday life can be difficult. While some might see the
lack of a touch tone or cell phones as a minuscule problem, having a
rotary phone can negatively impact the way people conduct business or
receive services.?
