Hi,
It?s that time for me to upgrade laptops again. Please help me with
some recommendations. Any other shopping advice is appreciated too.
Requirements:
1. Superb screen. This is my number one requirement after having a
laptop with a poor screen for 2 years now.
2. Smaller than 15? screen, larger than 12.1?. I prefer the 14.1? sizes.
3. Core 2 duo, 1.8 GHz+. And preferably the new T7200 that has 4mb cache.
4. 1gb + ram.
5. 7200rpm hard drive, 80gb +. I think the 5400 rpm hard drives are a
major bottleneck.
6. Graphics card, not just the integrated one. I would like the
option of playing new games, though this isn?t a primary concern. And
I understand that this would affect battery life in a negative way, so
it?s a tradeoff.
I have come across the Dell Inspiron 640m and it?s probably my best
bet so far. It fits my requirements, except I am unable to see the
screen in person to see how good it is. Do you have any comments on
the Dell Truelife Ultrasharp in comparision to Sony Screens? And it
has only the integrated graphics card, I would prefer to have the
option of adding a discrete video card. This computer is a great
value, $1200ish with good options.
The Sony Vaio SZ looks nice. It should have an excellent screen like
most Sony?s I?ve seen. It has a switch on/off discrete video card
which solves the gaming and battery tradeoff. The downside is I think
you have no choice but the 5400 rpm hard drive, and the screen is a
bit small for my liking at 13.3?. Also, it?s way more expensive than
the competition I have seen.
Any help is appreciate,
