Seriously (notwithstanding my comment below), many kinds of doors are
capable of the configuration you described. Very broadly however,
these are often called "Access-controlled egress doors" (a fancy name
for "a one-way exit") whether the control is requires the use of a
security card, PIN number, single-motion egress button or by virtue of
a simple hardware feature like a one-way locking device simmilar to
the one you described.
Is that the type of name your are after?

a one way locking device is what I'm looking for - kind of what your
old high school may have had. A simple door that you were able to walk
out of but could not reopen once you were outside.

Are you asking about a push-bar door?

Thank you for clarifying your question for me. Forgive me for
suggesting that you don't know the difference, but in the security
industry the term "egress" means "exit" and "access" means "entry". An
"access controlled egress door" is one that limits entry but allows
people to exit.
The "push-bar door" mentioned by my colleague is technically known as
a "single motion egress door". This is a security feature that allows
one to open the door with a single motion like pushing on a bar or
button. Not all "push bar doors" can be configured to lock
automatically to outsiders though. "Access-controlled egress doors"
can. So yes, I believe what you are asking about is called an
"Access-controlled egress door".
Is this sufficient?
