Hi there!

I really need some help in pricing some website/ multimedia work that
myself and 3 others have done for our first client. We have performed
the following services for the client:

*Design/ Coding:

Created a bespoke design (not a from a template) using:

XHTML
CSS
Javascript/ DOM scripting

*Graphics:

Edited client promotional pictures/ cleaned up/ modified etc
Created bespoke Flash animations for the site
Created promotional logos/ banners

*Multimedia

Added both Dial-up and broadband flash video to the site

*Created podcasts for client, which included:

Sourcing/ and mixing of podcast music
Consultancy of podcast content
Authoring of podcasts

*Podcast Marketing:

Published and placed podcasts in relevant sites, directories etc
(client is now very high position in iTunes in UK and US)

*Domain brokering

Negotiation of cheaper price of domain name on behalf of client

*Hosting

Sourced best hosting service for client/ provide stats on request traffic etc

*Search Engine Compatibility/ Visibility

Client has the number 3 position in Google ranking (where previously
was not listed at all)

The client is very happy with what we have achieved for them and is
chasing us for payment. We want to charge a fair price but we really
have no idea for 'the current market rate' for this type of work.
There does not seem to be many advertised prices out there and we
really don't want to a) over charge the client or b) underpay
ourselves for good work.

We are now working on getting the client on to syndicated radio show,
which we are having successes with, and again (have no idea of what to
charge!)

Any advice on how to price the work (in GBP and USD), any resources to
look through etc, people to contact would be of great help!!!! Thank
you

Many thanks!

alasdair2006-ga,

Did you keep track of (or can you estimate) your hours?

Everything you describe is professional-level work that generally
commands a fee of from $50 to $100 per hour (US dollars).

Sure...there are top-notch pros who get paid more, and some
just-getting-off-the-ground operations that charge less.

But anything in $50-100 range would be more than appropriate. In
fact, I'd shoot for the higher end myself, since you landed your
client the #3 spot on search results page! He/she has GOT to be happy
about that.

I'm guessing from your description that there was probably about 50
hours of work involved (though it's a wild guess...only you can know
the time and effort that went into the job).

Taking a midpoint price of $75/hr, that would come to a fee of $3,750
-- quite a reasonable figure, I think for the apparently expert
services provided.

Of course, if it was more than 50 hours of work, then the fee should
be adjusted accordingly, and you should also add in any out of pocket
expenses.

Let me know if this helps, and also, what additional information you
would need to make for a complete answer to your question.

All the best,

Clarification of Question by alasdair2006-ga on 03 Dec 2006 23:10 PST
Dear pafalafa-ga,

Thank you for looking into my rather involved question here! I
appreciate your feedback very much and I think it's important for me
to clarify this by explaining what the answer will be used for.

The answered question will presented to the client as paid-for
"independent pricing research". In order to do this I would like the
sources for the research to be shown as listed below for each of the
headings in the raised question e.g.

*Design/ Coding

Recommend pricing per hour to client (x)
USA Current Market rate: (y)
UK Current Market rate: (z)

Source 1 (Website/ Journal/ Forum)
Source 2 (Trade Journal and number)
Source 3 (URL link)

In this way we can be as fair to the client and they can have the
links/ references etc to view to support the pricing rationale.

Hope this helps! And thank you again!!

Just to add that the sources in surrounded by brackets in my example
e.g Source 1 (Website/ Journal/ Forum) can be anything
(Website/Website/Website) or (Forum/Other website company price
listing/ Website) as long as each price for each section comprises of
3 independent, trustworthy sources from somewhere.

Again, thank you!

alasdair2006-ga,

I haven't forgotten you (and I hope you're remembering to check your
question from time to time!).

I've some pricing information for a variety of services, but not as
neatly laid out as the categories you listed, and not always on an
hourly basis. Alsom most of what's available are US prices...there
seems to be much less price info on UK sites.

The hits I'm getting look like this:

alasdair2006-ga,

Hello again.

I wanted to post an answer before the expiration date so as to leave
time for some further back and forth on this, if needed.

As I said earlier, there seems to be much more price information
available in the US than in the UK. Furthermore, it's not always
posted in quite the same categories or for quite the same services as
you mentioned.

However, I think the information below includes enough to craft a
credible bill for your clients. But if you need any additional
information, let me know.
