Question ID: 783387
I'm looking for a new, lightweight laptop (under 2.75 kg / 5.6
lb)which has a dedicated graphics card of at least 128MB. Screen size
should be 14" or less. Laptop needs to have a DVD burner as well. I
have seen the Dell XPS 1210 with add on 256 MB GPU but am looking for
other (cheaper) options. Strong 3D Score for Gaming (C&C Generals
etc.) and portability are the key, as well as low cost. USA only
brands are no go as I'm in the UK.

Hello garry73,

As someone has commented before this, your spec is going to be VERY
hard to come by. However, I will try and do my best for you.
I have a client I work with in the UK whom I have bought laptops from
in the past. I am sure I can give you his website and he will be able
to source the laptop less expensively than you could get it for on the
Dell website.

I have found a close machine that will play the games you require but
it includes a 15.4inch screen (I use a 15.4 inch screen and to be
honest anything smaller will really just hurt your eyes).

Here is a basic summary of the laptop:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66 GHz, 2 MB L2
cache, 667 MHz FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
(incl Operating System Re-Installation CD)
SUPPORT SERVICES Basic Package, 2 Year At-Home Service
LCD 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display
MEMORY 1024MB 533MHz Single Channel DDR2 SDRAM (1x1024)
HARD DRIVE 80GB (5,400rpm) Hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE(S) Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW with Software
GRAPHICS CARD 256MB ATI® Mobility™ Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory™ graphics card
PRIMARY BATTERY 6 Cell, 56Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
WIRELESS Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card
CARRY CASES No Carry Case
SOUND CARDS Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD™ Audio
FLOPPY/MEDIA DRIVES No Floppy Drive Option
Power Supply 65W AC Adapter
Modem 56.6k V.92 Capable Internal Modem & Adapter
Standard Warranty Collect & Return, 1 Year Service only
Money Off Savings Save £50 inc VAT
Promotions Hidden Option Class Memory Upgrade from 512MB to 1024MB
SYSTEM MEDIA Resource CD - contains Diagnostics and Drivers

Although this laptop does have a larger screen than you actually
require, it is a better laptop than the 1210 XPS you saw. It has 1gig
of ram and a 256 ATI Radeon 1400 GFX card which will excellently play
your games.

The price on the Dell website is £783; however, I think my Dell source
could get it for less than that price. If you would like me to find
out after you have decided that this spec is ok, let me know and I
will do my best for you.

Hello friend I have a suggestion for you. You need a lightweight
laptop which has dedicated graphics and its cheap too. Friend it is
very hard to fing such a combination. But from my personal experience
I am telling you that I have been using HP Pavillion 5200TX for the
last 3 months. Its damn good. Its Core Duo powered and has shared
Graphics memory og 256 DDR2. It comes with 1 GB DDR2 at 667 MHZ. Its
quite cheap considering its performance. In my recomendation go for
it. Its great. And for gaming I just completed NFS UG2 with all the
details enabled. It is powered by NVDIA GeFORCE Go 7600 GPU. Its hot.
I love my notebook. If you have this one you will also fall in love
with it.

Below I am specifying a site for your help which lists all the specs
of the notebook.

Get a Sony Vaio, small and lightweight, with enough graphic
capabilities to support Windows Vista at high performance.
