There are people and groups seeking to find/develop/promote ways to
create benefits to society by USING INFORMATION IN NEW WAYS (sharing,
compiling, etc.) via the internet.
I'm trying to create a list of the MOST WELL-CONNECTED AND WELL-KNOWN
INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS who have expressed a belief or commitment to
this kind of mission. Al Gore is one obvious example.
First and foremost I'm seeking those are committed to using the
internet to achieve this mission. Another way to say it is I'm trying
to find those most committed to part (2) below:
(1) Find/develop/promote ways to use information for social good;
(2) Use the internet to achieve this mission.
The information I'm seeking is primarily just a name and a link to a
site where their relevant views or efforts are made clear. A text
comment about them rather than a link is fine too.
I do need some form of contact information, but I'll create a separate
question for those I have problems finding. Hence if the site linked
to has some form of contact information so much the better. |

I recommend that you define "a list" so researchers will know exactly
what your expectations are considering the price you are offering in
exchange for the research.

At your current price, the Researcher who answers your question stands
to earn $6. Quite frankly, for this price I doubt that anyone is going
to build a list of thirty names that meet your requirements. This is
likely to take several hours of research.
You'll probably get better results if you either increase the price
considerably or pare down the size of the list that you require.

I was hoping for someone to find an existing grouping of such folks,
not to try to create the list from scratch. A single article or two.
Magazines such as Wired seem to love to create lists of influential
people.
I seem to have heard of some recent articles listing people
influential on the internet, but haven't found them (other than
Newsweek's old "net 50" from 1995). I was hoping for a link to such an
article or articles.
Had someone simply extracted the TED conference folks, that would have
been at least half. But I figured that out on my own. So if someone
else can find a similar grouping or two with at least a dozen folks
who are a "direct hit" for my criteria, I'll award for that.

I found at least one article that gives me what I was looking for:
http://www.iseff.com/2005/12/most-influential-person-of-web-20-in.html
I'd also add to that
Esther Dyson
Robert X. Cringely
Philip R. Zimmermann
Steve Wozniak
If someone has another article to add that's helpful, I might award
for it if it produces enough people, otherwise I'll discontinue the
question.
