Question ID: 784644
Who did Kenny Chesney open for during his initial years in country music?

I read somewhere that he was an opening act for someone, and basically
he said that he/they weren't as big as they thought they were. I'm
looking to find out who he is referring to.

Greetings Lmno,

I have located resources stating that Kenny Chesney opened for
Alabama, Wynonna Judd, Dwight Yokum, and Tim McGraw. He could have
been referring to any of these acts.

Spokesman Review, The (Spokane), May 4, 1998 by Mary Sagal Correspondent

"Lonestar and Kenny Chesney opened for Alabama. That Chesney paid
tribute during his set to both George Jones and Conway Twitty says
more than anything about where this young singer is headed."

"And though I like Wynonna's music, do we really want to hear her go
on about her "sheroes," and how Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney opened
for her? Bitter much?"

"Chesney opened for Dwight Yoakam at the Greeley Independence Stampede."

"Chesney opened for Tim McGraw on his run last year."

Should my answer require clarification, please request it and I will
be happy to respond.

Best regards,

Here's the quote, but since Kenny says he won't name names, I doubt
that anyone can say for certain who he was referring to:

"When I first got started, I went out and opened for people that ...
how do I say this? I'll try to choose my words correctly here. They
didn't mean a fraction to country music as much as they thought they
did. I'm not naming names, but that's just the way it is. They treated
us like crap."
