For the first time in nine years, the median price for homes UNDER
CONTRACT in the county fell in August of this year. The fall was only
1% --
August, 2006: $495,000
August, 2005: $500,000
A slight drop also occurred in October from about $480,000 to
$470,000. The Long Island Multiple Listing Service (MLS) keeps data
on each month, linked below. September, 2005 is missing from this
chart. Note too that these are CLOSING PRICES, which can vary from
the numbers above.
It is also important to note that average home prices are higher
because of a number of very expensive, multi-million dollar home
sales.
