Hi. The cost is up to how much information you are going to store in
your web page. Because you need to get database too. If we conclude
this, it will cost $200- $300 dollars with web page server.

If you have more questions I will be glad to answer.
Best regards

@ lakevanmonster -

Is the development time for free? You are refering only to the cost of
a server, but this is negligible in comparison to the cost of creating
the site and maintaining it.

Hello, first I would like to say that delocio.us is already taken, but
if you order a domain such as digg.com you will need to buy a hosting
service to host your domian. if you buy a .us domain on godaddy.com it
will cost you 7.99 dollars a year if you want to buy a .com domain it
will cost about 9 dollars a year. But for a hoasting sevrice, witch
you will need if you want other people to be able to see your we site,
it will cost you a little bit more if you want just a basic web site
with 5 gb of free space it will cost you about 3 dollars a MONTH. If
you want a deluxe web site with tons of extras and tons of space it
will cost about 6 dollars a month. If you want a full blown web site
that hundeds of people will acess in a day then you will need a
premime plan that will cost 15 dollars a month.

Oh and if you want to get it at those prices go to godaddy.com. I
think they have the best prices on the web. Hope this helps.

I don't think the question is referring to the cost of a domain name
or web hosting. I think the question is referring to the cost of
design and development efforts to create a website that receives as
much revenue as DIGG or DELCIOUS.

To answer that, it somewhat depends on how much you are involved in
the project along with the complexity of the project. If you are
planning on outsourcing everything (just managing the project), you
will be looking at spending thousands of dollars in design costs,
development costs, server costs, etc. etc. Developing a website is
not cheap. And once the website is developed, your website better
have something unique to offer if you want to attract the amount of
users DIGG and DELICIOUS pull in.

I would say DIGG could have easily cost $50k or so to startup.
Depending on how many people were on the project, how many worked for
just a share of the profit,
etc. etc. It could have also only cost a few grand if they played
their cards right when they started it up.

Either way, bandwidth and servers to host its popularity will still be
a large recurring fee. - This, however, shouldn't be a problem for
them anymore since they are both pulling in the big bucks now.

All of the actual numbers depend a lot on your local market and
currency, but, hopefully this will give you an idea of what the
ballpark figures are like:

Domain registration: $20-50.
1-5 rackmount servers: @$2000-10000 (you'll need a few for redundency
as your site grows, plus decent RAID hardware and disks)
Server colocation fees: @$100-250/month plus traffic data costs (here,
it's 3c/Meg), so you'll be paying more for hosting once it gets
popular.

If your programming and graphic design skills are good, you won't need
to worry about staff much until you've grown enough to afford it.
Otherwise, hire the skillset you can afford.

The really big cost initially will be getting your site initially
known. Myspace.com is an example of a site which got to where it is on
the back of online, newspaper and magazine ads. That will get people
to take a look, but, keeping them depends on the quality of the site.

There is a good hosting company who provides all kinds of services you
are looking for, it includes domain registration (check your domain
avability etc), website design (free template) and more... I think you
definitely should check it out, this will save you a lot of money...
