My OS is Windows XP Home edition. All questions are related. 1) What are the keystrokes I should employ to prevent Mozilla Thunderbird ("TBIRD") from eliminating emails I want to save? I cannot find the wanted emails anywhere, once I have viewed them and closed TBIRD to go to another website. 2) What keystrokes should I employ to set up TBIRD so that I can permanently exterminate (not merely "delete") those emails I do not want to save or have access to? 3) Numerous times I have attempted to delete the entire TBIRD software I have installed, including all of the emails, but I have not been successful in "shaking" the curse of Mozilla when it is reinstalled, to persist in performing the unwanted situations which I have sought to avoid in questions 1 and 2 above. 4) What keystrokes should I employ to eliminate all at once (not email by email) some 1,300 unwanted emails which are in TBIRD? |

Hello noncom, Thanks for the question. First of all, I am wondering if you have gotten confused between Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox. These pieces of software are completely different. The only relationship they have is the fact that they are free and made by the same group. Thunderbird is an email client, installed on a person's computer and not a website. Mozilla Firefox is the browser that you would use to visit websites. Now that I have mentioned that, I will get on to answering your questions. 1 In order to stop Thunderbird from deleting emails, don't press the delete key. Thunderbird does not automatically delete emails. If you do not press delete, the emails should remain in your inbox until you delete or remove them. You can also create other folders and drag and drop the emails to the other folders. 2 To delete an email, highlight it in your inbox, press Delete and it will be removed. Now go to your deleted items in Trash in Thunderbird, press control + A and then press delete. The emails will now be deleted. You can also press the "Empty Trash" button to delete all your mail from Trash. 3 Please complete instructions in answer 4, then perform an uninstallation of Thunderbird. 4 Go to you inbox and press CONTROL + A. Now press Delete. Go to your deleted items in Trash and press CONTROL + A and then press delete. Your items should now be permanently deleted. If you need any additional clarification, let me know and I'll be glad to assist you. --keystroke-ga |

If you want to completely delete your user settings and emails, this is fairly simple. First of all close down Thunderbird and open Windows Explorer. Browse to C:\Documents And Settings then open the folder that is your username. If you see a folder called "Application Data" open that, otherwise you may need to enable showing of hidden files and folders. This can be done by going to the Tools menu and clicking Folder Options. On the view tab, you will see a list of options. Simply select "Show hidden files and folders" and click OK. Once you are in "Application Data" you will see a folder called Thunderbird. Delete this and all your settings and emails will be gone. I'm not sure what you mean by the saving emails question as this is the default Thunderbird behaviour. Hope this helps. |
