I have just started a weight training regimen and I would like to
better understand how my efforts are likely to translate into pounds
of muscle mass. Note that what is important to me is pounds of muscle
mass because that will ultimately lead to long term weight loss.

My question is: what is the relationship between muscle mass gain and
various metrics associated with lifting weights, such as:
    - For every X pounds increase in bench press at 10 reps, you gain
about Y pounds of muscle
    - On average, if one trains for 30 minutes, 3 times per week, a
man should gain about X pounds of muscle in 6 months

The ideal answer would provide 3-5 statistics like the above mentioned
examples and also provide sources for where this information was
obtained. If you meet this criteria, I will give you a perfect
rating.
