Very many thanks, Phil You always manage to pull something out of the bag. My elder daughter called round this evening and we had a discussion about Waterloo (she's a Bernard Cornwell buff). And, yes, she already knew about the scavenging of corpses although she tells me that Sharpe never stooped. I am now looking forward to the promised continuity with you. Have a great Christmas! Bryan, No luck I?m afraid. This is a particularly hard question. A report of such a series of incidents is unlikely to have appeared in the main newspapers as they are such a minor matter. I went through the best possible source online, that of the Scotsman, but no luck. I think you may need a local paper, but in the absence of a date, this seems impossible. I did wonder if the burglaries could have been related to a trial which was held at the Old Bailey in 1925? (started Oct 24) A number of principal communists in the UK were convicted of ?Conspiracy to Utter and Publish seditious libels and to incite persons to commit breaches of the Incitement to Munity Act 1797?. They were all based in London except one from Scotland, and it would not surprise me that their offices in various parts of the country would have been ?visited? by the security service. Especially as in the same year the Communist Party held their Annual Congress in Glasgow (May 30, 1925) If you want to see the references in the Times. Search: INKPEN between 1920 and 1930 Albert Samuel Inkpin - Secretary Communist Party of GB William Charles Rust - Young Communist League Robert Page Arnot - Labour Research Department As for your second point. Once finished here at GA, I?ll drop you a line. Phil |

That's great Phil. Many thanks for your response to both questions. I feel sure that the incidents you have uncovered are related. I have now identified a suspect who admitted doing the jobs. Unfortunately, he is long dead but - would you believe? - he carried out other jobs for Special Branch. Please post your comments as an Answer; there's no need to priovide any links or stuff. In fact, I would prefer NOT. All the Best Bryan |

Bryan, Many, many thanks for your generosity. I'll be able to pay for those dentures now. Phil. |
