I can't think of any good questions. Researchers are invited to comment with a fascinating fact. The first fact that I am unfamiliar with wins the right to post the answer. You may post only one fact to this thread. You may not post facts used in prior races. Violation = disqualification. |

Thereīs a vacuum between sun and earth, nobody will doubt about that. A vaccuum is a perfect isolator - thatīs why a vacuum is used in thermoses to keep you coffee warm. Well, why is it warm on earth then ? I will post the answer to this paradox sounding fact if my question wins. ;-) till-ga reposted from race part I |

Nelson -- You could try fascinating quotations? I have a collection of bad predictions but this one's a doozy: "I will drink any drop of oil (found) west of the Mississippi" -- John D. Archbold, executive at Standard Oil. Source citation: "The Reckoning," David Halberstam, 1986 Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

A cat purrs at roughly the same velocity of idling diesel engine - around 26 cycles per second. http://www.xmission.com/~emailbox/catpurrs.htm |

Did you know... that tulips were the center of such a craze in the Netherlands in the 1600s that many people sold their house for one tulip? People sold their entire net worth for a few tulips, thinking that the flower was so rare and beautiful that the price could never go down. At the peak, a tulip was equal value to an estate, and at the bottom, it was the price of an onion. |

It costs more to make the cardboard box that Shredded Wheat comes in than it does to make the Shredded Wheat itself. |

Not a researcher but here's a freebie. Did you know that the fighting against colonial powers during the American revolution started with the battle of Lexington and Concorde on April 19, 1775 and that although widely believed by English speaking people that the fighting in America ended with the defeat of the British and the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, in reality fighting for independence in America against colonial powers continued for well over half a century until December 9, 1824. Finally ending with the battle of Ayacucho that took place at the Pampa de La Quinua, a few kilometers from Ayacucho, in the Andean nation of Peru. |
