According to a Chicago Dental Society interview with Thomas J. Larkin,
DDS, of Omaha, NE, a dentist-turned-Webmaster, less than 20% of
practicing dentists have a dental practice Web site.
What percentage of practicing dentists have a dental practice Web site?
?Probably less than 20%, and I don't see that growing a lot. I think
dentists are generally confused as to what the Web can do for them and
the need for it. The average dentist probably should not pursue it
unless one has the capabilities and focus. I think most people are
disappointed because their strategy wasn't thought out and very few
people understand Internet marketing.
What types of Web design firms/contractors do dentists typically have
to choose between when they begin their search for someone to make a
site?

According to a survey American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons (AAOMS), 37% of AAOMS respondents have a Website for their
practice and another 41% plan to get a Website in the future.
AAOMS conducts a Membership Needs and Satisfaction Survey to determine
the current state of oral and maxillofacial surgeons and OMS practice,
trends and opinions.
?Although members surveyed represented every size and type of
practice, there were remarkably few differences in terms of
professional needs.?
?Some of the more surprising results are in the area of technology.?
.?Seventy percent of survey respondents have an e-mail address, 96% have access
to the Internet in their home and office, and 37% have a Web site for
their practice. Another 41% plan to
get a Web site in the future.?
