What is the ratio of Foreign Medical Graduates each year from Ross

residency in the United states (place in the Match)versus those who
pass the USMLE III, but do NOT get a match in the Electronic Residency
Application Service?

roughly 3 to 1 (296:95), with the presumption that all students who go
through residency have the intention of getting licensed and thus
passing the USML III.

According to the Admissions office (tel: 212-279-5500), the School
graduates approximately 450 students per year (250 in the Fall, 200 in
the Spring).

According to the Ross University School of Medicine FAQ
http://www.rossmed.edu/Medical_School/Interactive/Ask_Questions_Frequently_Asked/ask_questions_frequently_asked.html#3

96% of eligible graduates achieve a U.S. residency position
[approximately 432 students]. Non-U.S. citizens who are not permanent
residents must obtain the appropriate visa in order to be eligible for
U.S. residencies.

[approximates]
68.5% of graduates obtain residencies through the Match [296 students]
9.5% of graduates obtained residencies pre-Match [41 students]
22% of graduates obtain residencies outside of the Match [95 students]
(note: All residencies are obtained in the U.S.)

Step III of the USMLE, the final step for licensing, is taken after
graduation, (during or after residency training).

For more information about the USML licensure requirements and
statistics at Ross University, see their site:

Just a few clarifications: I know it is 96% of all eligible students,
but How many of the eligible students were there out of the total
graduating class of that year?

Also there is a fall, spring and summer semester do they not include
the graduating summer students in the graduating class statistics?

If you already recieved my other clarification request, please ignore
this one. Thank you

You asked for statistics per year, so we cannot work with specific
numbers. I called Admissions again. Annually, there are about 500
graduates from Ross University school of medicine (this of course an
estimate and varies from year to year).

Eligible students (approx 96% of this total) are those who complete
the required coursework successfully and on time, pass USML I and II,
complete the required paperwork for Match (once again, on time), are
available and have the appropriate visa. Those who are not eligible in
a current round can apply later.

The figures that the Admissions office had available were for January
to June 2001. Of the 314 graduates during that time, 295 obtained
residencies through the Match. Later figures were not available. As
mentioned before, there are also others who obtain residencies
independently pre- and post-Match.

Note: There are several staggered graduation dates throughout the
year, partially due to different durations of residencies. They are
not graduation ceremonies but official dates for issuing diplomas and
processing licensure.

I wanted to answer this one! Unfortunately, I haven't been accepted as
a Researcher yet. I'll just add on some additional information you may
find useful.

I found the following article at Forbes, "Palm Tree M.D.s" by Chana
Schoenberger, (May 14, 2001).

http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2001/0514/090.html

Data from the article for year 2000:
94% of U.S. med-students obtained residency in the match
70% of Ross med-students obtained residency in the match
52% of all foreign med-students obtained residency in the match

Those figures apply to the match only. The article states that
eventually, 96% of Ross students obtain residency. These figures
appear to line up with those given by waggawa-ga.

Finally, another good site that may help you find additional
information:
http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.html
"FREIDA Online is a database of approximately 7,800 graduate medical
education programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education, as well as over 200 combined specialty
programs."
