For some reason I no longer get the color red in my display

Hi mreents,

So, do you mean that your moniter shows blue and green, but doesn't
show red, therefore all you see is a combination of blue and green?

It could be related to your video card settings - they would be useful
in answering this question.

I'll be more than happy to answer this question after you have
clarified this.

Thanks,
Bobby_D-ga

What kind of computer and monitor do you have?

Color information is sent to the monitor in 3 channels: red, green and
blue. Usually if one of these colors does not show up, you will have
either bent pins on the cable connecting the computer to the monitor
or an actual defect in the cable. Try getting a new cable from ebay, a
computer store, or a friend, and testing that out with your monitor.

Less often, there may be a problem with the graphics card in your
computer or with the monitor itself. I know in at least one case I had
a monitor where "the whites weren't very white and the reds weren't
very red" and I could only trace this to the fact that the monitor was
very old and possibly defective.

If you wish to try to fix your monitor cable, I suggest looking for
broken or bent pins. Also, your cable may be loose, and you can simply
unplug it and reconnect it.

I hope this fully answers your question. If it does not, please ask
for clarification before rating the answer.

It could be a dodgy bit of soldering inside your computer that's come
loose and stopped a colour channel connecting. Or, it could simply be
that your monitor is growing old and has 'packed it in'.

Or, you could just have a loose cable!

If you unplug the monitor often, another possibility is that one of
the "pins" in your monitor cable has bent or broken. Most standard
monitor cables have a row of 5, 4, then 5 pins. If you have fewer than
this, or any are bent, you may be able to straighten the pins or
replace the cable.
