Dieting- lose weight by eating more often?

I have heard of a diet program that claims that people who are
overweight can lose more weight by eating 5 times a day then 3. The
claim being that by increasing the body’s ability to metabolize food,
one can lose weight. The claim says that like a well fed fire eating
more of the “right foods” with the right portion sizes one can
increase the bodies ability to burn calories hence its ability to lose
weight.

Are there studies that can prove Larry North's claim that by eating
the same amount of food over a greater number of meals one can
actually lose weight?

Hi Virtualprofessor,

For proper dietary and nutritional advice I would strongly recommend
asking a qualified nutritionist or dietitian. I can, however, assist
with your online research.

Several studies looked at the effects of frequency eating and its
effect on diet, cholesterol, glucose tolerance, atherosclerosis, and
plasma lipids. After their subsequent publications they were often
cited as research supporting new diet programs.

Larry North’s diet program is based on a combination of small frequent
low-fat meals and proper exercise. According to his regiment, eating
will speed up metabolism while also burning calories.

After spending time researching Larry North’s diet, I didn’t find any
studies that proved or disproved his diet program. In fact,
bestlowcarbs.com states there isn’t sufficient evidence to back up any
“nibbling versus gorging” model:

““To tell you the truth, while dieticians and nutritionists seem to
adopt the "nibbling versus gorging" model of daily meal planning, not
all doctors agree with it. Many diet reviewers concluded that there's
no sufficient long term studies proving the benefits of "nibbling".”

Here are the studies that are often cited for backing up the frequency
of eating and its affect on diet. Unfortunately, none of which are
online.

Upon my research I also stumbled upon a warning about Larry North’s
free trial Infomercial, so use caution when signing up for free
