NEAH BAY — A woman was injured Thursday when a U.S. Coast
Guard boat struck her jet ski as she tried to disrupt a
whale hunt by members of the Makah tribe.

The hunt was unsuccessful, but tribal members said they
would not be deterred by protesters.

Erin Abbott, 23, an anti-whaling protester from Seattle,
was listed as stable Thursday afternoon at Olympic Municipal
Hospital in Port Angeles, where she was being treated for a
shoulder injury.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society joins other whale
activists in calling for the immediate suspension of the

the US government while the aggressive actions of the US
Coast Guard at the site of the hunt are investigated.

This spring, several Makah families attempted to kill gray
whales in Neah Bay. Anti-whaling activists who tried to block
the whalers were denied access to a US Coast Guard-enforced
"exclusionary zone" surrounding the hunt. One of the protest boats was
rammed by
a Coast Guard vessel, injuring at least two activists.
