I use Outlook express 2000 connecting to an IMAP server. When I delete
messages and purge, it does not actually purge them on the server. I'm
reasonably computer literate and know what I'm doing (and this used to
work), so I'm looking for websites that list exactly what the problem
might be - I think its more than just trying some menu option on my
outlook. |

Hello -
Are you looking for a list of sites that may offer insight to this
problem, or are you seeking a definitive fix? I found a few sites that
may be able to help you with this problem.
Many thanks -

Well, ideally the definitive fix. Something that says, "yeah pressing
purge sometimes doesn't work, you need to go and delete these extra
files from that directory". Any suggested fix that is beyond clicking
a menu option in Outlook, since I've tried all of those. Thanks.

Hello again -
I am still working on this. I have the understanding that you have
done the two stage process: marking them for deletion, then pulling
down the edit menu and clicking on purge.
Are you getting any error message from the server at all?
This could be a server file permission issue, as I have seen noted in
a few references.
Check with your provider and have a peek at the mail log files, and
see if you are getting any errors.

Yes, I've done what you mentioned. This is something that I used to do
all the time, and its now broken. Its not a problem on the server (I'm
sure about this, I use IMAP from other clients with no problem).
Something is broken with my outlook....
