hello again researchers~! im trying different question techniques, so ill try asking specifically about chinese curry powder. if you are chinese *or* regularly cook chinese style curry *or* are pretty knowledgable about the kinds of supermarket curry powder a typcial chinese housewife would use, please help me... i think chinese curry has star anise flavor (or maybe its 5 spice not sure) to it. anyway, does anybody have a specific brand they can recommend? i have access to several chinese supermarkets. pictures (from the web or scanned in) or descriptions of chinese characters would be extremely helpful. even if what is normally used is not from china (say, its from malaysia or indonesia, or whereever), that is fine, as long as if it is something that is commonly used. this curry powder, ultimately, would be used to make beef jerky. thanks in advance! |

Hello hahna-ga! Curry is not normally used in Chinese (China) households, though it has been introduced into Chinese fast food / restaurants for the western taste buds, along with chop suey, chow mein etc (which are Chinese inventions for the western markets). Chinese (Singapore and Malaysia) would probably be the type of curry you are looking for as you have suggested. The curry used in Chinese (China) fast food is a 'catering' curry powder and to my taste buds anyway lacks the taste and richness of the more Indian curries found in Singapore and Malaysia. This catering curry is available from all cash and carry wholesalers in rather large containers! (Normally you need to need to be an owner of a store to gain entry to these catering supply warehouses) regards lot-ga |
