Hello- The company that seems to track this is Outsell. They are cited in my professional association (Special Libraries Association) website as an authority. The most recent annual report on the industry is dated November 19, 2001, so I assume if you wait a few weeks, you will have updated data. Outsell's estimated global market size for STM information is $13.9 billion for the year 2000. The annual growth rate (in the November 2001 press release) is given as 42%. http://www.outsellinc.com/docs/pr_release/pr20011119_01.htm I could not find any information specifically about the U.S. STM market. I'm sorry the data is a year older than you requested, but again, it appears that Outsell is due to publish another report, hopefully accompanied by another press release like this one, in a few weeks. You might want to contact Outsell directly. Other links: Special Libraries Association http://www.sla.org Best wishes. | |

Hello again--perhaps the confusion comes from the statement that the top ten companies have nearly 42% of the market *share*: "The top 10 companies in the overall STM segment represent 41.7 percent of the market..." The growth rate does seem to be 42%, at least according to them: "Outsell estimates that the 2000 worldwide market for STM information is $13.9 billion, which represents a phenomenal annual increase of 42 percent." Does that help? |
