Question ID: 85539
Adobe premiere help.

I want to import video into adobe premiere, then export it for use in
power point as full screen video. I ideally would like to do this
with mpeg-2.
I have adobe premiere 6.0 and it won't let me export as an mpeg-2 into
a file on my hard drive. How EXACTLY do I need to do this? Do I need
to upgrade to 6.5?

Cheaper suites, such as Ulead Video 6 can do it, but seem to crash.

Again, all I need to do is import from camcorder as an Mpeg-2, and
edit, and export as an Mpeg-2.

Premiere 6.0 allowed me to export as an .avi file, but it was very
"blocky" in full screen video.

I do not have a dvd player,
I am using a p4 1.6/384 mb ram dell desktop and a p2.0/512 laptop.

All I want is to edit small clips for use in powerpoint

Hello slamminsam. I work as a video editor, and the main tool we use
is Adobe Premiere 6.0, so I am glad to be able to answer your
question.

Adobe Premiere 6.0 comes bundled with a piece of software called
Cleaner EZ. It may have been installed when you installed Premiere. If
not, you can find this on the Premiere 6.0 CDROM. When Cleaner EZ is
properly installed, you will find a new menu item under the "File ->
Export" menu, titled "Encode with CleanerEZ". Selecting this item
loads your current timeline into Cleaner EZ.

When Cleaner EZ loads, your video that was in Adobe's timeline will be
in Cleaner EZ's Batch window. You can right-click on the item in the
Batch window and select "Advanced Settings..." from the menu that will
appear. There, you will be able to select any of dozens of preset
encoding settings, including a few that allow you to encode into
mpeg2.

While I answered this question mostly from my personal knowledge, I
was able to find you the following resources on the web:

Cleaner 5 for Windows documentation:
http://www.discreet.com/support/documentation/streamingmanuals_text.html

MPEG2 Encoding:
http://www.learndynamicmedia.com/articles/compression/MPEG2encoding.html

Search strategy: Cleaner EZ MPEG2 on Google

I hope this is of assistance to you. Cleaner EZ's documentation may
also help. If this is not enough to get done what you need done,
please place a request for clarification, and I will research this
further for you.

I am almost there, but need a little more help.
 I have cleaner ez installed.
To get it, I have to go to :
File.. Export Timelinme... Save for WEb .. Then Cleaner EZ comes up..
and I have many choices, but not MPEG-2. Under settings, the menu has
options for real, windows media, and mpeg 352x240 NTSC, and others.
Is that mpeg-1 or 2? (the 352 x 240). Also, is my cleaner ez
installed properly?

I have captured MPEG at 720x480 resolution, about 1 MB/sec is the size
of the file.

I would like to merely trim this file and export at the same
resolution. It seems that premiere is able to export in a variety of
formats, which are not as good resolution and the videos appears
"choppy". Even when I export for the web at 2 MB/sec (broadband
setting), it still comes up that way.

I need just a little more help!

I again wanted to state that my question requests MPEG-2 not MPEG-1 information
Please clarify the answer

I will further research this, but it will take a bit more time than I
have at this moment. Please expect a full clarification at midday
tomorrow. Thanks.

It happens that Cleaner EZ does not have the ability to export as
MPEG-2. You will need to purchase a third-party encoder to encode to
MPEG-2. As MPEG is a patented technology, you are unlikely to find a
free MPEG encoder which is also legal. Since Google Answers' Terms of
Service prohibits answers containing information about illegal
activities, I'm afraid I can't give you any more information. (It
doesn't mean that it isn't out there).

For more information on MPEG-2 patents, see:

Reason this answer was rejected by slamminsam-ga:
It does not answer my question. I requested information on MPEG2 not MPEG1.
