There are one or two advantages of a numeric id 1. They can be entered on a Telephone keypad (or a touch screen, or a custom pad built from cheap parts) rather than on a keyboard 2. security - they are harder for onlookers to guess or memorize- for example 3146457 is much harder to guess a missing digit, than say DRNORTON or REDHOUSE. that's probably all (since you only asked for the advantages, i assume you are already aware of the DISadvantages) if you need anything else, just ask. (and here i thought i was boycotting $2 questions.) |

I would suggest that a numeric-only identifier has the disadvantage it is more easily mistyped and (possibly confidential) mail goes to the wrong recipient. Owain |

Hi jumbie, Although numbers are my business, if you're talking about e-mail addresses, I find alpha addresses much easier to remember. Since the numeric ones mean nothing to me, I disregard them and have to look them up each time I write to someone with a numeric address. Uh, same thing with nonsense letters. And with oddly spelled words. Just my take on the issue. Your TaxMama-ga |
