When printing from Visio 2002 to my Brother HL-1230 laser printer text
does not print although shapes do. This does happen on my inkjet. A
search of the Microsoft Knowledge database finds a similar problem
with the HP Laserjet, related to the driver. The driver I am using is
v1.42 dated 1 Mar 02 and I am running W2000 Professional

I should have said this does *not* happen on my inkjet.

I have partially resolved the problem by changing the Print processor
(under Properties/advanced) setting from BrPrint to PSPrintProcessor,
leaving the datatype as RAW. I have no idea why this works!

This resolves the problem with Visio but appears now to be causing
problems with Word.

BrPrint is a custom Brother print processor which, it appears, is not
handled well by Visio.
PSPrint is referring to PostScript, which is pretty much the standard
high-grade printer language (unless you count PCL, which is
proprietary to HP).

As I see it, you have two options. Your best option would be to go
into printer setup in word and in Control Panels and make sure that
you select PostScript at every opportunity.

However, it's reasonably likely that Word has some sort of
incompatibility with PostScript, and that's where your second problem
is coming from. In that case, all I can suggest is creating a second
entry in your Printers folder for the same printer, and configure one
'printer' so that it works with Visio and the other 'printer' so it
works with Word.

Sorry :)
