Hi there -

I'm running a Web-based service (the service offered is purely
Web-based with no products being shipped). We currently use
viaklix.com for our online credit card payment processing. However,
viaklix does not allow automatic rebilling of customers and we are
trying to avoid having to store customers' credit card numbers on our
servers. Currently, customers have to re-enter their credit card
information in order to renew their subscriptions.
QUESTION:
Can you recommend a couple of credit card payment processors that
allow for easy and secure online re-billing without our having to
store credit card-related customer information on our servers and
without customers' having to re-enter their credit card data? I'm
looking for big, reputable and well-established services that I can
trust will not go out of business tomorrow.

Thank you.

Hello marcfest-ga

I have used Worldpay for repeat billing for over 2 years.
http://www.worldpay.com
They are a UK company but provide online billing solutions all over
the world. They are a large company with one of the UK's main banks
(NatWest / Royal Bank of Scotland) as one of the main shareholders.
Worldpay History
http://www.worldpay.com/usa/about_us/history.shtml

Their repeat billing solution is called "FuturePay"
http://www.worldpay.com/usa/products_services/billing.shtml
Worldpay provide the online encryption to their server, acquire card
details and store the customer's details on their server. The records
are stored infinitely for customer and merchant reference. The
customer is provided with an account area at Worldpay where they logon
https://select.worldpay.com
Where they can check their payments, view a statement, change / update
their card and contact details etc. The merchant is provided with a
similar area where they can view all payments and administer accounts.
The re-billing mechanism automatically issues payment receipts, and
can be configured for a initial setup charge (which can be delayed
e.g. by 1 day, week, month etc) and the normal subscription amount set
to day, week, month multiples.

Worldpay also transact in multiple currencies, the customer chooses to
be billed in their local currency if they wish. There are is a fraud
check option
http://www.worldpay.com/usa/products_services/worldpay_alert.shtml
which performs additional checks in the transaction process to stop
fraudulent purchases.

If you want a preview on the integration documents they are viewable
here
http://support.worldpay.com
All in all, they are very comprehensive in service and documentation.

Another reputable company which won't disappear is Verisign.
Their repeat billing solution is here
http://www.signio.com/products/payflow/rcb/
They also take care of the storage of the customers card details,
excerpt:
"The customer profile information is securely stored and managed by
VeriSign, so you don't have to worry about data storage and
maintenance. All transactions are processed using SSL (secure sockets
layer) technology, the industry standard for secure processing. The
amount you have specified will be charged to your customer's account
according to the profile you have set up, and an optional e-mail will
be sent to your customer every time their account is charged. You also
have the option of receiving a summary e-mail to help you monitor your
recurring billing transactions."

Their main online payment processing information page is here
http://www.signio.com/products/payment.html

Also Jettis Transaction Processing Solutions
http://www.jettis.com/recur.php
"If your business runs on a subscription or other recurring-billing
basis, Jettis will manage the process so that you never have to think
about when to bill customers. We’ll ensure that they are accurately
billed on their respective schedules. It’s automatic, it’s accurate,
and we’ll even create a customized solution to match your billing
cycles. The recurring-billing module also yields useful retention rate
reports, customer longevity reports and conversion reports."

The three above should satisfy your needs, the links below are not in
the league of the above i.e. 'may' not be as reputable or as large
(judging from the design and sales pitch tone on their websites), I
have included them only as a comparison as they offer repeat billing.

Verotel
http://www.verotel.com/m02000.html
With a free subscription management, real recurring billing and smart
recurring billing and who also handle all customer billing issues.
Verotel only deal with merchants selling non tangible goods

Securepay
http://www.securepay.com
"Recurring Billing Feature
If you bill your customers the same amount each month, SecurePay can
automatically bill the credit cards for you."

Netbilling

I hope that helps, if you need any clarification just ask.
