branches, small cardinal on right side branch, evening star to left of
tree. Worked on 18 count dark blue Aida cloth. Small finished piece.
Old pattern from a kit - unknown designer or company.

Hi Sparkle,

Do you have a picture of what the finished design should look like?

If the actual pattern cannot be found, I can take any image and feed
it to a cross stitch creator program, if you like. Would that
suffice, or must it be the original chart you have in mind?

Hi, Missy, Thanks so much for your interest and response. I really
need the chart, but I still have the picture that came with the kit.
What I can do is try to have this copied and send it through the mail
to you. My knowldge of the computer is limited - I have digital
capability, but haven't learned how to use it yet. Could you try to
find the origional chart, while I try to get picture copied and ready
to send to you. I'll need a mailing address. Thanks again - your
response is very encouraging, Sparkle

I have found a little additional info about my lost chart. The title
of this kit is Winter Evergreen with the numbers F0-10 above the
title. Design is shown in a round silver frame. Thanks for trying
and I hope to hear from a successful researcher, Sparkle

Sparkle,

Does this resemble the design?

To pinkfreud, Thanks so much for trying, but photo not even close.
Evergreen I'm looking for is very full, with snow all over branches.
THANK YOU so much for trying, Sparkle

Hi Sparkle,

Regrettably, Researchers are unable to comply with requests for
personal contact information, that includes mailing addresses. In
order for me to see the picture, you'd need to scan it (or arrange for
someone to scan it for you) and upload it to a picture hosting site.

Another way for you to get a pattern is to make it yourself using
pattern creation software. The program I use for Cross-Stitch pattern
creation is called PC Stitch. The company makes a trial version
available for download, but be warned - the "Save" and "Print"
functions are disabled, so you'd only be able to see how it works -
including how to create a pattern from an image on your computer. To
register, the program is $40.

While I appreciate SuzyQ's input and her willingness to look out for
our customers, she's mistaken. It's my understanding that you have
already purchased this pattern, but have since lost the original
chart? If that is the case, replacing the chart in the manner I
described *for personal use only* would fall under fair use
provisions. Further, you do not need to own the copyright to an image
to create a single cross stitch pattern for personal use from it. (
Again, this is protected by the fair use provisions of US Copyright
law). Where you would run afoul of copyright law would be if you
chose to sell the pattern.

Making a single pattern from an image for personal use is quite a
different animal from copying an actual pattern someone else has made.

I have business on the other end of town this evening, near a
Michael's Crafts. I will ask my favorite clerk there if she has any
idea who may have created the original pattern. Without an image to
go on, however, we may be sifting through haystacks for the proverbial
needle.

Hi, Missy, I've been able to blow up photo and may be able to
reproduce it onto a new chart. I know I'd be better advised to do as
you suggest and get the software package. It's probably a little
beyond me now, but as I get more comfortable with computer and learn
how to communicate in forums, I'll be ready to follow your advice.
I'm lucky to have found Google Answers - it took forever!! Thanks for
your help and I probably should remove my question, but I'm going to
have to figure out how to do it!!! Feels like I'm driving beyond my
headlights. Thanks to you and everyone else who tried to help - this
was a very obscure little kit, Sparkle

Missy,

What you're suggesting is a copyright and intellectual property
violation. You don't have the right to turn an image into a
cross-stitch pattern unless you own the rights to that image. Merely
being in possession of the picture does not give you the necessary
rights.

Most cross-stitch designers have been forced to defend their copyright
vigorously, since there have been too many instances of entire charts
being scanned and swapped online.

What you're proposing is not on the same scale as this wholesale
pattern swapping, but is illegal nonetheless.

If you're desperate to find the pattern, I'd suggest posting a
detailed description in the newsgroup rec.crafts.textiles.needlework.
Their shared wisdom might be able to help you out.

Hi, Missy and Suzyq - I appreciate comments re: copyright laws and
had no intention of infringing on a designer's work and I'm certain
Missy was just trying o help a frantic cross-stitcher. I wish I knew
who the designer was, so that I could purchase another kit or the
chart. Howevr, the kit is so old and must be relatively
insignificant, because I'm getting no response to chart search or even
recognition that it has ever been seen by anyone else. Suzyq, I
appreciate your suggestion of a link I might find useful and I'm
especially grateful to Missy for trying to help, Sparkle
