Where can I get an HP-700 stand-alone fax machine repaired? I am
pretty sure the only thing wrong with it is the modem was fried in an
electrical storm (it happened once before). It does everything but
send and receive. :-(

I recommend that you contact "World of Fax & Copiers." Their
toll-free number is 1-800-634-9329, or 1-866-FAX-PART. I spoke
with Scott, who was knowledgeable and helpful.

They offer the following repair services for your HP-700 fax:

1. If you are confident the modem is the problem, they will
swap or repair just that board for you, for a flat fee of $50.

2. If you're not so sure, ship them the entire machine;
they will service it for a flat fee of $119.

Scott emphasized that the HP-700 is an excellent fax machine,
"worth repairing, definitely better than anything you're
going to pick up at [store deleted] for $150."

If you are not in the US, you can reach them at (845) 638-2332.
Their fax number is (845) 634-1534.

When shipping equipment to them, you must make absolutely
certain to REMOVE THE INK CARTRIDGE; also take a cloth
and clean up any loose ink where the cartridge was seated.
I can't emphasize this enough -- Scott mentioned it and I also
have had a direct negative personal experience with an inkjet
fax shipped with the cartridge inside. Very, very messy.

You can send the modem board, which can be removed with a
phillips-head screwdriver, or the entire machine to the
following address; it must be carefully packed as it is
a fragile piece of equipment:

World of Fax
162 Grandview Ave
Nanuet, NY 10954

However I recommend calling first to establish your own
comfort level with them before shipping off the machine.

Their web site is a bit dated, but my phone conversation with
Scott was very encouraging.

(P.S. If your geographical location is not in the continental
U.S., please request clarification and I'll do additional
research.)
