The phrase is not actually an acronym and the "D" you have is actually an "O". The phrase is EGO FUM PAPA actually translates from Latin as "I am the Pope" and has been used in a song by a punk style band called Propaghandi. This appears on their album, lovingly entitled "Satan Stole my Teddybear", sounds like Jerry Spring missed that one. However, not so much the translation itself, but the usual understanding of using the phrase is to emote to someone the "idea" of "Live like an Angel - Die Like a Devil" which are lyrics from the song and seem to go hand in hand with mention of the title. So instead of saying to someone "Live Like an Angel - Die Like a Devil", you would simply say "EGO FUM PAPA". This seems to me not inkeeping with my memory of the original punk era, in which you wouldn't get many punks speaking latin nor living life like an angel since society and living like an angel was what they were rebelling against. I was only five when the sex pistols were at their height so you'll excuse me if i misunderstood the point. Propaghandi Lyrics http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/SongUnid/64CC6327CA4F61FB48256A2B000AFA5A All the references seem to have a religious context as a demons and monsters site has it as the name of a demon which is based loosely on the attire of the pope. As you will see from the picture on this link page. Demons Central http://demons.monstrous.com/ego_fum_papa.htm I Hope this Helps. Johnny Phoenix. |

'fum' should be 'sum' (= Latin for 'I am'). The 'f' in the linked website is a misreading of the 'old-style' letter 's' shown in the caption to the illustration. |
