ganji,
I regret to tell you this, but...
My husband's department has been waiting for a husband (full-time) and
his wife (part-time) to start working for them for several months now.
They were supposed to begin working on July 1, but they have been
waiting for their visas, for which they applied at the end of April.
The wife finally got her visa approved and started work last Monday
(October 14). The husband is STILL waiting for his visa to be
approved, almost 6 MONTHS later.
While not all visas experience this extreme of a delay, the
information this couple has been getting (through their attorney) from
the INS is that most of the INS branches are several months backlogged
right now.
Your best bet is to get an attorney specialising in immigration and
visa beaureacracy, if you don't have one already. These professionals,
if experienced, will know their way around the system, and should be
able to help speed the process along. Do your homework: ask around to
any other people you know in the area who had to go through the visa
process; check the telephone Yellow Pages, and any local papers or
websites run by immigrants for ads of attorneys with this specialty.
When you find some possible attorneys, ask them for client references,
then call those clients and ask for their opinions of their attorney's
performance.
I hope this information is of assistance to you.
Good Luck!
