If I search on the term "Mark Hollander" with or without quotes my
self-aggrandizing site does not appear. If I check to see if it is in
the Google index by searching on ""markhollander.+com" I see that it
has in fact been crawled. But if I search for a word within the site
-- for example "site:www.markhollander.com top 100" -- nothing comes
up in the top 100 listings. Obviously I'm doing something very wrong
here with my micro site. Question: what do I need to do so that when
people search "mark hollander" i at least show up in the top 100! Thanks.

Hi Mark,

There's nothing you are doing wrong. Your page has been indexed but
you haven't been given a PageRank yet, that's all. Normally it can
take a good two months for Google to get a PageRank on you after you
have been indexed. You are indexed, that's a good thing.

Really there is nothing you can do to speed things up, as they say,
time takes time, but there are things you can do to help your
PageRank.

First, if you haven't done so already, submit your site to the DMOZ
project. You can submit your site to Netscape's Open Directory Project
(DMOZ) by visiting
http://www.dmoz.org

Next submit your site to Yahoo
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/

Your pages are good pages, the only thing I would suggest until you
get a PageRank is to make the menu text instead of images. You can get
the same effect using CSS as you are getting with the rollover buttons
there, and it gives the robots a better view of your page.

You can read about PageRank at these links,

This is very helful indeed. But when you suggest submitting to the
DMOZ, how do I know which category to choose? I find it a little hard
to choose. Or do you consider this request for clarification a "new
question." Thanks!

Hi again,

Go here,
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=communications+consultant+

and pick one. :-) Really it doesn't matter where you are listed. I'm
listed on there and it brought my PR up about 1 point. So, it's worth
the effort and time. Pick one that has the least amount of entries and
submit to that. It will take a while before you are listed, as these
are gone through by hand and human editors on top of that. Each entry
is put through several viewings before they accept your listing. But
again, it's worth the effort in PR and people finding your service.

Keep your description clean and non flowery. That helps. A lot.

Good luck and I'm glad I was able to help you.
