Hello know_it_all,
Numerical errors generated from Nero/InCD can be frustratingly obtuse.
There are a large number of usenet posts mentioning similar problems
and surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be an easy-to-find master list
of error codes. There are, however a bunch of things which can cause
problems when working with CDRWs. It would help if you could provide
some additional details:

1) What OS are you using? (What version of Windows are you using?)
2) What version of InCD have you installed?
3) Did this software come with your CDRW drive?
4) If you know it, what make and model CDRW drive are you using?
5) Have you installed any other CD burning software (in particular
Adaptec/Roxio's DirectCD product?)
6) What is the capacity of the CDRW you're trying to use? (70
minute/650 MB or 80 minute/700 MB)

These details will make it easier to track down and resolve this
problem.

One small question:

Have you tried formatting another CD-RW disk?

If you only tried one disk on it, it may be as simple as a bad CD-RW disk...
Sometimes the simple things are the most frustrating.

Nevermind my last post, I missed the section where you tried more than one disk.

Hello duncan2-ga & Others

I get the same error code using Record Now,Alcohol 120%,WinOoCD v5,
NERO v5.914 Roix v 5.1 and B's Clip which is the software that came
with the Sony CRX168B Burner. The strange thing is it use to work with
any of these burner app's. I was just using Record Now and B's untill
this problem started, then I tried all the other app's with no
luck.Answers Below:
1:) I am running Win Me
2:) All Software are lastest versions
3:) B's Came with the Burner.
   4:) Sony 16x/10x/40x Model CRX168B Lates Firmware
5:) Yes I tred sever differant burners programs including Roxi
(aka adaptec),but only after the problem started.
   6:) All of these (70 minute/650 MB or 80 minute/700 MB)
       It's a very good Burner.

I was hoping some else has run across this error code
"00a1-0005-0027-0000"
and found the solution. I found one referance to this code on the
web.
I tried the solution it gave but it did not help.
That was to find the file scsi1hlp.vxd and rename it old then
reboot,
The error did not go away.

I am sure this is a software conflict I just don't know which
software
or file that Bugging me. I have not used the format a CDRW for at
least
a month maybe longer I have installed many differant programs
since then,
    I don't remember which ones.
I can Record a CDR with no problems at all it's just the
re-writable disk,
that generate the ERROR. It's a PUZZLER that's why I am reaching out
for help.

I hope this added Nfo. Helps
     Thank You

Thank you for clairifing your question. From the sounds of it, it
sounds like a driver problem on your cd-rw drive. The driver in
question is the w part of the cd-rw (rewritable driver).

A possible soultion would be to reinstall the drivers to your cd-rw
drive. This means uninstalling your cd-rw in windows (so the next time
windows restarts it recognizes it as a cd-rom drive) then install the
drivers for it. They will be on the disk that came with your cd-rw
drive.

Also, see this note:

http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/news/crx168.html

which is for the 1.0 version of the disk with a green lable of your
cd-rw model. It states that the documentation has "a significant
documentation error." The documentation error probably doesn't have
anything specifically to do with this problem but if you have that
type of disk currently you can request a new disk free from sony. The
replacement will also have the drivers needed to reinstall the drive.

To uninstall the cd-rw drivers click the following:

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. System
5. Device Manager
6. Plus sign next to CDROM
7. The name of your cd-rw drive (possibly crx168)
8. The Remove Button to uninstall the drivers.

After you do that and reboot, you'll have to reinstall the cd drivers
that came with the drive. This varies on different drives but is
usually just as simple as putting in the disk that came with the drive
and choosing install or something similar in the installer program.

Hello,arcadesdude-ga
I have the correct disk with the drive I saw that message at the Sony
Site.
The last thing I tried was to remove the drive in systems manager and
let windows re-install it after reboot. I still have the problem.
It must be a software conflict or a file left over from somthing I
have since un-installed. If it is this type of conflic I do not have a
clue as to How To Find It. Short of uninstalling all my installed
programs one at a time.
That do not sound like fun.

 Thanks

>>It must be a software conflict or a file left over from somthing I
have since un-installed.<<

You can narrow it down by proccess of elimination here. You can test
if it is a software conflict by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer
2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del (Hold Ctrl and Alt down then press Del and let
go of all three) This will bring up the taskmanager in windows.
3. Select all programs EXCEPT Explorer, and Systray. (You may have to
wait while windows tries closing the programs and tell it to End
Program if it does not close automatically.)
4. Run Incd (or your other cd-rw packet writing (disk writing)
software).
5. If it still errors then it is not a software conflict. If it works
then it was a software conflict and you'll have to narrow down which
software is the bugger (the problem). (It will probably be old virus
scanning software if that is the problem).

Hello,

CD-RW disks do not need to be formatted.
I simply write to CD-RW after unwrapping a new one.

The option to format normally means that you can drag and drop to the
CD. If you do not format, the CD writer writes to the CD-RW like it
does to any other CD-R in a 'session'. You cannot delet the data (with
the Windows delete command as the disk information is 'locked') You
can append new data to it, and the CD-RW behaves exactly like a CD-R.

If you want to reuse the CD-RW again you use Nero to erase the disk,
and you can rewrite to a 'fresh' disk.

one thing i havn't seen was the speed at what your burner operates. if
it is above 24 then there is a patch for windows that fixes this
problem. yes i know where it is. and yes you can search it.
