I'am looking for excel templates presently being used by construction
companies specializing in site work/ conc. excavation etc: Iam not
looking for an estimating program although if estimating is part of
excel templates fine.
Templates should reflect all estimating costs job progress cost and
budget cost.
Excel templates for project management site work thank you

Hi,

This looks like what you are looking for.

http://www.downlinx.com/proghtml/366/36665.htm

I downloaded this and checked it out. Has good documentation and
installs rather easy. I'm not a construction project manager, but it
looks good and fairly complete.

Thanks,

I am sorry that you did not feel webadept's excellent research met
your needs. If you had posted a Request for Clarification instead of
just Rating the Answer, webadept and other Researchers could have
attempted to assist you in finding what you needed.

Hey Vince,

I am a retired commercial estimator/project manager. I'd be pleased to
jump in if you'll provide more detail about why webadept's answer
didn't do the trick for you. I did try to look at the spreadsheet he
mentioned in his answer, but the download site is temporarily down, so
I have to ask you to describe what functionality you found lacking in
it. Was the template too heavy on building costs as opposed to site
work?

to the retired project manager:

thanks for your intrest. i guess i'm looking for a excel based program
for site work. also if you are a retired project manager perhaps you
can get a hold of some sample templates that was actually used to
aquire a bid and used thru the construction process perhaps templates
that were given to you by site contractors.

thnak you vince

Vince, I downloaded and took a look at the spreadsheet referenced by
webadept and it looks OK to me. The only thing is, you have to clear
the job cost codes and descriptions that come with it and put in the
ones that are specific to your outfit.

The Help file with the spreadsheet explains how to do this:

"Click on "Add New Cost Account" from Excel's JobCOST menu. Then start
entering your jobcost account definitions. Add category (max 8
characters), description (max 50 characters). This will be the account
for tracking costs. Note: We provide a sample jobcost file for a
typical home construction. If your project is similar, edit this file
using "Maintain Cost Account" function. Otherwise, use "Clear
Worksheets" to start fresh."

Since everybody's business is different, I think that's what makes the
most sense - you want the spreadsheet to perfectly match your
particular operation.

Afraid I don't have any spreadsheets I can share with you. As a GC,
what we used probably wouldn't much apply to you guys anyway. Subs
never shared theirs with me because those are proprietary to their
business and it would have been inappropriate for us to have them.
Besides, I always used Lotus rather than Excel (guess I'm just not
much of a MS fan).

Again, other than the job cost descriptions not being readymade for
you (and remember, site work can be anything from paving demo to
fencing, and you haven't given details about your specific business),
webadept's Excel sheet handles budget, actual, committed, and forecast
costs, and over/unders which is what I think you're looking for. Maybe
you could give it another look.

One more thing - the price is right. You don't even have to pay for it
if you don't want to. When I was in the business, the software we used
to handle our cost accounting cost us several thousand dollars.

Best of luck.
