Hello again, sla-ga.

In the last two months, since going back to school (after 20+ years!)
following up on your previous question has been just about all the
Google Answers activity I've been able to find time for.

Unfortunately, the reason I've been uncommunicative is that I've
nothing to communicate. The South African pastor I referred to did
not respond to followup e-mail, and my last-ditch effort (posting
signs at the universities, and our local African restaurant) has not
yet produced any fruit. I can't believe that there are no South
Africans among my city's students or resident African community; but
I've been unable to connect with anyone who can resolve this for me.

Although I tend to become obsessive over challenges like this one, I
have to concede that your best interest is probably not being served
in this instance. In the course of my digging on the 'net, I've
turned up numerous services which offer paid human translators. What
I propose, if it suits you, is: 1) to instruct the Editors to refund
your fees for the initial question; and 2) provide you with links to
translation sites where you may have the translation professionally
done.

Since these sites offer free quotes, it would then be a reasonably
straightforward thing to choose between them, and the refund of your
GA fee would defray some of the associated cost.

Is this acceptable?

Apologetically,

Chromedome

Greetings and salutations Chromedome,

I am grateful for your reply and I applaude your return to class after
X number of years. I have it in mind to do the same. I do not
require a refund on the previous paid fee. You have earned the fee,
or your portion thereof, so simply ask the Exalted, or Exhausted
Editors, to direct me to the sources that you will supply.

I pray much success for your educational goals, and please, please
have a really great day

Sla-ga

May I suggest an alternative? If I'm understanding your message
exchange correctly, you have a text version of the item you need
translated. You don't mention whether the language in question is
Afrikaans or one of the native languages, such as Xhosa or Zulu. But
whichever the case, you might try subscribing to the Usenet discussion
group for South African culture, soc.culture.south-africa, and posting
your text and your question there. This group tends to be a rather
volatile bunch heatedly arguing over local politics, but when I was
planning a trip to Cape Town a few years ago, I got quite a lot of
really good information from a few generous souls in that group.

If your email software doesn't include a Newsgroup Reader feature for
Usenet, you can go to http://www.usenet.com and enter the group name
in their 'search' function. (I tried useing Google's "Groups" tab on
their front page to find it, but for some reason it didn't come,
although the group is definitely active, as my news reader pulled up
several posts to it dated today.)

Good luck!

...Maggie

Hello,

If the text is in Zuid-Afrikaans, I can translate it for you, since it
is one of the languages I know. Please repost your text, and I'll
solve your problem,
greetings,
cubist
