I am interested in applying to graduate schools in the Social Work
program (masters not PhD). For the following schools, I am looking
for admissions deadline (for fall 2003), acceptance rate, if GRE's are
required, and if so what the GRE median scores are for those admitted,
annual tuition, and number of students currently in the program. I
would like the schools to be put in order of difficulty of admissions
(i.e. easy - hard, least to most competitive). The schools are as
follows: Simmons College, Smith College, Brandeis U., Tufts U.,
Delaware State U, University of Pennsylvania, Boston College, Boston
University, SUNY Stony Brook.

Hello Julie99!!

Thanks for using us to help you make your grad school decision. I
know what a bewildering process this can be, as I just went through
the same ordeal, so it is my pleasure to be able to help someone else
do some of the research grunt work to make it easier for you.

I thought that it would be the best for me just to go through the
schools one by one and give you the stats that you requested.
First, I attempted to find a definitive ranking of graduate schools of
social work, but have found, both through my own experience that this
is becoming sort of obsolete, except for med and law schools. I think
that most schools have realized that perfect for one student may be
merely mediocre for another.

Drumroll, please----here are your schools!!

1) Simmons College:
students currently enrolled: 280
admission deadline: There are two dates for filing applications. The
first, for early acceptance, is December 15. The second, for general
admission, is February 15.

Follow this link to a GREAT site that provides a list, detailed
description, and link to EVERY grad school program in Social Work:
http://www.petersons.com/GradChannel/code/IDD.asp?orderLineNum=447523-1&inunId=22146&typeVC=ProgramVC&sponsor=1&majunit=22146)
I Love Love Love this site and use it everyday. I think that it is
invaluable and reasonably unbaised.

My search strategy here was pretty self-explanatory, as I simply went
to the websites for the schools and pulled the information. For those
pieces of info that I could not locate on the site, I used:
http://www.gradschoolguide.com
http://www.petersons.com/gradchannel

I truly hope that I have made your grad school decision process a bit
easier. For the little bits of information that I could not provide
you with, please feel free to contact me: Bep026@aol.com with your
email information so that I may ask the schools to provide me with the
necessary information during business hours, rather than at 2:30 in
the morning!

Thank you again!
We look forward to helping you again soon!
Ask again any time!

Hi, thank you for your work on this answer, the heart of what I wanted
to know lied in the difference of level of difficulty each school was
to get into. Which is why I requested acceptance rates. Most
colleges will list out of X amount of students Y number were admitted,
or a percentage rate of acceptance. Could you please add that to the
answer? Thank you very much.

Good deal! Here is a list of each school's acceptance rates (as found
on http://www.princetonreview.com).
In addition, I realized when I went to sleep last night that it would
be good for you to have a list of each school's website, for easy
linking purposes.

1) Simmons Graduate School of Social Work: www.simmons.edu/gssw/
Acceptance rate: 84%
Of that, who attends: 49%

2)Smith College: http://www.smith.edu/ssw/
Acceptance: 64%
Who attends: 47%

3)Brandeis: Heller School for Social Policy Mgmt:
http://www.heller.brandeis.edu
Acceptance:58%
Who attends: 45%

4)Tufts: no record of a social work grad program

5) Delaware State University: site under construction
Accepted: 56%
Attend: 75%

6) U. of Pennsylvania: http://www.ssw.upenn.edu
Accepted: 74%
Attend: 46%

7)Boston College: http://www.bc.edu/schools/gssw/
Accepted:44%
Attends: 50%

8)Boston University: http://www.bu.edu/ssw/
Does NOT publish these stats

9) SUNY-Stony Brook: http://www.uhmc.sunysb.edu/socwelf/
Do not report these stats, but my feeling is that if you are not
in-state, then don't bother!

**Here is another great site for you, which lists all graduate social
work programs in the Northeast:
http://www.gradschools.com/listings/northeast/social_work_ne.html

I hope that this is a good amount of information for you to chew on
for a while.

Thank you so much for using Google Answers!
